Even in a weak economy people still buy small plants
like crazy because working with plants makes them feel
better.  It gives them a reason to get up and go each and
every day.

Rooting cuttings at home is super easy and these
techniques work year round.

All you need is an old fish tank, or an opaque
plastic tub from Walmart, and a little knowledge.
The list of what you can root at home is almost endless.

Complete instructions on how to build a Homemade Plant
Propagation System are on this page:
http://www.freeplants.com/homemade-plant-propagation.htm

Building the system is as easy as pie and many people have
adapted my plans to simply using a plastic tote from Walmart
for the cover, and a plastic dish pan with holes drilled in
the bottom for the flat that you stick the cuttings in. Just
make sure you drill lots of holes in the bottom of the dish pan
if you go that route.

Typically in May, June and July you are working with what
we call softwood cuttings.  Then by late July and August
the cuttings are semi hardwood cuttings.  The come fall and
winter the cuttings are considered hardwood cuttings.

They all root fairly easily and at the bottom of this
page I have detailed instructions for how to do each kind:

Make somebody you love happy!  Give them a copy of my
plant propagation book!

Do me a favor and send this Email
to three of your friends and tell them why you like me, or
why you don’t like me.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Take care and stay inspired!

In all your articles I have watched or read on soft wood cutting. I have yet to see how long it takes the cuttings to root

Could you please tell me about how long.

    MIKE

    • Mike says:

Mike, depending on the plant two weeks is about the shortest time, 8 weeks would be about the longest for softwood cuttings.
